Henry R. Appelbaum "Chip" - President, Chief Executive Officer & Director

Mr. Appelbaum has over 25 years of experience in various business development, marketing and sales, and science management positions. He began working with Novian Health in 2004 and was appointed President & CEO in February of 2005. Previously, Mr. Appelbaum was Vice President of Corporate Development at Source Precision Medicine; while at Source he was responsible for business development, strategic alliances and legal activities (Source was a startup he helped found to develop gene expression based diagnostics for drug development and patient care).

Prior to joining Source in 1998, Mr. Appelbaum spent nine years at Amgen where he served in various marketing and business development roles, including leader of the Infergen® Launch Team. From 1987 to 1989, he served in a technology transfer role at Argonne National Laboratory. From 1980 to 1987, he conducted contract research for industry and government clients at Battelle.

Mr. Appelbaum received an MBA from the University of Chicago, an S.M. in Chemical Engineering from MIT, a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a B.A. in Mathematics, from the University of Rochester.

Eugene A. Bajorinas - Vice President of Operations

Mr. Bajorinas joined Novian Health in 2007 with more than 20 years of health care experience, including multi-site operations, marketing, strategic planning, and international business development.  Prior to joining Novian Health, he was Vice President of Marketing for Norton Healthcare, a $1.1B health system in Louisville, where he strengthened the brand and transformed the marketing function into one of the nation’s best. In San Francisco, as Regional Vice President Operations for TLC Laser Centers, he led the post-merger integration of two companies and was responsible for 12 surgery centers.  Mr. Bajorinas previously joined Lasik Vision to help launch the company’s U.S. expansion and in 9 months grew his region to 12 centers generating more than $50M in revenue.  Prior to Lasik Vision, he was Chief Operating Officer for California LaserCenters.  He previously led marketing, planning and international business development for Mercy Health System.  He also has served on private boards.

Mr. Bajorinas earned an MBA from the University of Miami and a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto.

William Graveman, Acting VP, Engineering & Development

Mr. Graveman is owner and CEO of Biomedical Devices of Kansas, a design-build company which specializes in medical devices. Biomedical Devices of Kansas, as the engineering and development arm of Novian Health Inc., developed and refined Novian Health's ILT system's design and technology.  Today, Biomedical Devices of Kansas supports Novian Health's ongoing operations as well as the design and development of future ILT generations and related products.

In 1987, Mr. Graveman founded Magnatech Engineering, Inc., a multi-disciplinary design and engineering firm specializing in industrial processes and industrial processing equipment. William serves as Magnatech's President and CEO and is active in all phases of engineering, production, design and development. Mr. Graveman holds a number of patents and has authored numerous articles for various trade publications. Previously, Mr. Graveman worked under contract for the Department of Energy in the development and production of nuclear weapons and weapons testing equipment. He graduated in 1978 from the University of Kansas with a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Kambiz Dowlat, MD, Director & Chair Scientific Advisory Board

Dr. Dowlat is a Professor of Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, and the founder of Novian Health. Dr. Dowlat has been a practicing surgeon, specializing in breast cancer, at Rush since 1987. Prior to Rush, he was on the University of Chicago faculty of surgery. Dr. Dowlat received his MD from the University of London, and has spent the last 20 years in breast cancer research, developing the Interstitial Laser Therapy (ILT) process over the last decade. He is named on eight US issued patents related to this invention.

Dr. Dowlat is a pioneer of micro-invasive breast cancer procedures. In 1985, he introduced stereotactic needle biopsy to the United States for the diagnosis of breast lesions (now in use in over 2000 centers in the United States). As a renowned breast specialist and surgeon in Chicago, Dr. Dowlat annually operates on over 100 patients with breast cancer and manages many patients with fibroadenomas as well. Additionally he has trained over a thousand surgeons in courses sponsored by the American College of Surgeons in image-guided diagnosis of breast cancer.

From 1998-2002, Dr. Dowlat served on the National Mammography Quality Assurance Advisory Committee of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health of the FDA. Currently, he sits on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

Anthony J. Tomasello, Chairman and Director

Mr. Tomasello is the recently retired Executive Vice President and Chief Technical Officer of Stericycle, Inc., a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ exchange (SRCL). Stericycle specializes exclusively in regulated services to the healthcare community. Mr. Tomasello joined Stericycle in its infancy as a venture capital start-up and subsequently led the effort of developing and commercializing its intellecutal property and operations, both domestically and internationally. Immediately prior to his association with Stericycle, Mr. Tomasello founded, grew, and then subsequently sold a specialist consulting engineering firm. He is the holder of multiple domestic and international patents. Additionally, he has both public and private board experience. Mr. Tomasello is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh in Mechanical Engineering.

John Regan, Director

John Regan, is a Senior Director at Illinois Ventures where he invests in technology start ups. He has 18 years of experience in venture capital. Prior to Illinois Ventures, Mr. Regan was a Managing Director at Keystone Venture Partners from 1995 to 2003 and a Principal at Apex Venture Partners from 1989 to 1995.

From 1983 to 1989, John served as Senior Operations Analyst and then as a Group Leader at General Dynamics. There he focused on advanced technology programs, held a top-secret security clearance and was awarded the General Dynamics Educational Fellowship and Emerald Recognition Award for extraordinary achievement.

John has invested in, and served on, early stage company boards including CDnow, Imaging Automation, VST Technologies, Mothers Work (NASDAQ:MWRK) and Arnold Palmer Golf. He currently sits on the boards of Advanced Diamond Technologies, DzymeTech and Semprius. He has BS and MS degrees in General Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Frank J.M. ten Brink, Director

Frank J.M. ten Brink has served as a Director of the Company since July 2006. Mr. ten Brink is currently the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer of Stericycle Inc., an integrated Medical Waste Services Company. He has over 16 years of finance experience in high growth environments, mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining Stericycle, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer with Telular Corporation. Between 1991 and 1995, he was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Hexacomb Corporation. Mr. ten Brink studied International Business at the Netherlands School of Business and received an M.B.A. degree in Finance from the University of Oregon.
